Economia Politica. Rivista di teoria e analisi
Non-Technical Abstract

The aim of this paper is to provide a comprehensive analysis of Economia Politica, the Italian economic 'Journal of Theory and Analysis' established in 1984, and now at its 16th volume. In particular, we intend to identify the main features of the journal by looking at its fundamental ideas, its dominant topics, and its editorial choices.
The interest of this kind of study is manifold. First, it is methodologically quite original, as it evaluates the journal directly, rather than indirectly, as in the more standard 'impact-effect' analyses. Secondly, it is relevant in studying economics in a general sense, as it shows which ideas of political economy have been introduced, discussed and diffused in Italy through an established specialistic journal. Last, but not least, it could provide the board and the scientific committee of the journal with some reflections on how and where the journal has moved up to now, suggesting confirmations or possible changes for the future.
The paper is organised in five sections. In Section 1 we will briefly comment on the general and specific importance of the methodology we have followed. In Section 2 we will start by identifying the basic principles of the journal. In Section 3 we will consider how these principles have been implemented, by examining the most published economic subjects. In Section 4 we will identify and discuss some other aspects of an editorial nature. In conclusion, in Section 5 we will synthesise the most salient aspects of our analysis, and attempt to provide an evaluation of our results.
